Highlights
- 嵩山古名又稱外方、嵩高、崇高，位於河南省中部，屬伏牛山系，古時毗鄰洛陽城，是五岳的中岳，1983年後屬登封市。總面積約為450平方公里，嵩山又分為少室山和太室山兩部分，共72峰，最高峰連天峰高達1512米，峻極峰海拔1492米，古詩曰：「嵩高維岳，峻極於天」，中岳嵩山擁有古老穩定的自然地質和燦爛的文化遺存。中國名剎少林寺就在嵩山上。 1982年，嵩山被中國國務院列為第一批國家級風景名勝區。2004年2月13日被聯合國教科文組織地學部評選為「世界地質公園」。2007年5月8日，嵩山少林景區又被中國國家旅遊局批准為國家5A級旅遊景區。嵩山是儒釋道共處的聖地之一，不僅是中國道教聖地，漢傳佛教的發祥地，也是中國新儒教的誕生地。

Most visitors base themselves in 河南 and visit on a half-day or full-day trip. Use the Chinese name (嵩山) in a taxi app — drivers rarely read English.
